If your HubSpot portal is connected to multiple brand domains, it can be difficult to view analytics for each website individually if you don’t have the Business Units add-on. Here’s how to report on website traffic without the add-on.
A common challenge that HubSpot users face when housing multiple domains in one portal is traffic reporting by website. By default, HubSpot pools all website analytics data for all domains into its web sessions reports. If you don’t have the Business Units add-on, segmenting web traffic data by brand can be an obstacle.
There may be times when the Business Units add-on is unnecessary (for example, if you have multiple domains for one brand) or out of budget, but you still want to be able to report on web traffic for each domain individually in HubSpot. Here’s a quick tutorial on how to segment your traffic analytics by domain.
Set up custom analytics views
In the main header menu, go to Reporting > Traffic Analytics. Click on the Sources tab. You’ll see a Sessions chart containing all data from every domain in your portal.
Click All analytics activities. You’ll find that a Sources view has already been created by the primary domain you’ve linked to your account, but not for your secondary domain(s). This means you’re already able to filter Sessions data by your primary domain, but not the secondary domain(s).
Select Manage views from the drop-down. This will take you to the Reports & Analytics Tracking settings. Under Custom Analytics Views, click + Add Another View. Choose the filter Brand Domain, select the domain you want to analyze, and click Save. You can create as many custom analytics views as you need.
You’re now able to filter your web traffic data by all of the domains in your account. Data from the date you created the analytics view onwards will be easily accessible from your Traffic Analytics page.
What about retroactive data?
Custom analytics view data isn’t retroactive. This means you won’t be able to view any data relevant to your custom analytics views that was collected before the view was created.
You can now filter your Page Views data by domain, but retroactive Sessions data split by domain is currently unavailable.
